From Welding to Mirror Finish
Every stainless steel lab bench leaves our Suzhou factory with TIG-welded seams — tungsten inert gas welding under full argon shielding, front and back. Back-purging with argon prevents oxidation discoloration on the reverse side, which is where corrosion resistance quietly fails on cheaper benches.
After welding, the seam goes through five grades of mechanical grinding: 120, 240, 400, 600, and 800 grit. This alone brings the surface roughness down to Ra 0.4-0.6 microns. For GMP-grade pharmaceutical labs, we add electropolishing — the workpiece sits in an electrolyte bath under controlled current, and microscopic peaks dissolve preferentially. Result: Ra 0.2-0.4 microns, plus a dense chromium oxide passive layer that resists corrosion far better than raw stainless steel.
